Luyando have been looking into ways of becoming self sufficient.
In the last few months Luyando have started buying bananas from Cool Bananas Farm and selling them in Ndola and to the local mines.
Luyando have also set up a shop, a sales person has been employed, and a monitoring system put in place. We have a good stock of various items including groceries, mealie meal, fertilisers, paraffin and other village essentials. A well stocked shop should attract a lot of people from the surrounding area and farm. These small businesses will bring some income into Luyando.
Luyando has just bought a hammmer mill for the women of the village. The nearest hammermill is a 4km walk away and grinding the maize with a pestle and mortar is exhausting work. A hammer mill will free up the women to pursue other income generating activies as well as provide an income for the women who run the hammer mill. The women have started to make the bricks for the mill house.
In the next few months we hope to start a chicken project and a saw mill.
All these activities will enable the community to become self sufficient in the long term.

Luyando has started a feeding programme at Luyando Community School. Every morning before classes the children are served a nutritious porridge. It has been made possible by the generous support of Mary's Meals - an initiative which sets up school feeding projects in communities where poverty blocks children from gaining an education.
Mary's Meals is currently feeding over 300,000 children daily in Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia and Latin America.
Mary’s Meals donate funds for the food and provide training and support to the volunteers who cook and serve the daily meals. These volunteers, usually parents, are vital to the work of Mary’s Meals. Through their commitment the whole community becomes involved.
To gain an education children first need to attend school and then be given the opportunity to learn. Offering a feeding programme is a great incentive for the children to come to school. Poor children are far more likely to become ill. They are also frequently needed by their families for chores and so often miss a lot of school which means they fall behind in their work.
Our teacher has said there is now 100% attendance and that the children are not hungry in class so can concentrate so much better on learning. It is very difficult to concentrate when hungry, it causes tiredness, headaches, inability to concentrate and irritability. The breakfast will remove the pain of hunger, leaving children free to turn their attention to their class work.
The project has not only provided much needed food and nutrients for the children but is also a great source of hope for the entire community.

In October another container was sent to Zambia from Holy Trinity Brompton, London. This time the container was filled to the absolute brim, we could not have squeezed another item in. The response was quite incredible. As well as the HTB congregation, we had a few schools from the surrounding area, who donated 100's of bags full of clothes and toys.
The quality of the items donated was excellent and will be hugely appreciated by the Zambian villagers who should receive the gifts in time for Christmas.

Pastor Isaac Muleya held a 10 day revival meeting in Ndola in August. It was a great success and on average 150 people attended daily. Here are some testmonies of changed lives as a direct result of the meetings.
A husband who had run away with another woman for three months returned home the following day after we had prayed for his return. The woman spoke movingly of the joy of having her husband back.
A grade 12 girl who couldnt hold a pen as a result of a minor stroke received healing. She can now write again and is so excited that she can now write her grade 12 exams.
A boy of 16 years received instant healing from an arm injury he got from an accident 3 years ago.
Luyando handed out a wheel chair to 19 year old Durius Chilambe, which was donated by one of the members' of Richard Maybrey's crusade team who were here earlier on in the year.
There was an incredible atmosphere, full of laughter and joy. Many were on the floor, overwhelmed by the presence of the Holy Spirit. Praise God for his awesome power and love.

On Sunday 27th May the first " Luyando Christian Fellowship" service took place in Kamafwesa village. There were about 50 of us squeezed into one of the classrooms of the school. Pastor Evans lead the service and preached such a good message. 4 people came up for the altar call to receive Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. Afterwards a few came up for healing and deliverance. It was wonderful to be there for the first service in the village and see how God can bless and change the lives of this community.
On Saturdays the church will start a school for church members who cant read and write.

The church congregation will surely grow quickly. It is clear that an alternative venue for church is needed; so we are planning on building a simple structure as soon as possible.

12 DAYS OF THE FATHERS' BLESSINGS WITH RICHARD MAYBREY 17TH APRIL TO 29TH APRIL 2007 Zambia
Richard Maybrey of the Fathers' House Christian Fellowship Capetown South Africa in conjunction with Isaac Muleya of Spread The Fire Christian Fellowship Ndola Zambia both PIH chuurches held a HEALING CRUSADE in Ndola and Chililabombwe where one could truly say the Kingdom of God has come. The Kingdom of healing, salvation, and deliverance. This was in obedience to the great commission.
Amongst the notable healings were, one blind woman saw, a woman with a disjointed hip was restored, a paralyzed hand was restored, a lady who had an abdominal pain, later at home birthed out a foetus and was relieved of that pain which she had lived with for one year.
In Ndola an average of 300 people per day came for the healing sessions, in Chililabombwe we saw an average of 400 people daily coming for the healing sessions. We experienced what Philip experienced in Samaria.
Surerly the Fire of Gods' Love is Spreading.
More of Gods' love for you.

Charlie Mackesy and Vicky had a great day at Holy Trinity Brompton on Sunday 1st April receiving items for Luyando donated by the HTB Church congregation. We had a 20 ft container outside the front entrance of the Church from 8am to 10.30pm.
We were there for one day to catch the large congregation coming and going from the 5 Sunday services, having told them about the container in the previous week's services. We also had quite a few non HTB members coming from all parts of London, having heard about it from their friends and family.
We received endless bags and suitcases of adults and children's clothing, shoes, trainers, footballs, books, exercise books, pens and crayons etc. The quality of the items were incredible, we received so many brand new items too, including a box full of new children's sports kit. We received at least 600 bags/boxes of items in the container.
People were so enthusiastic at this opportunity to give, especially knowing that these gifts would definitely be going straight to the people who need them most.
We had a Zambian woman from Church, who contacted her network of Zambian friends around London and they too all came down with car loads of items. They were particularly encouraged by what Luyando is doing in Zambia.
All in all it was a fantastic day and we hope to have the opportunity to do it again, I am sure it will be a huge blessing to the community Luyando is helping.

The first classroom block at the Community village next to the Cool Bananas farm opened Monday 5th February 2007.
53 children came on the first day. There are two classrooms in use for Grade 1 pupils aged 6 and 9 years. There was much excitement as it was the first time these children had been too school. The other 2 classrooms will open soon. The school will be able to accommodate 120 children. Martin Zuch and Kevin Price were there on the first day to witness the opening of the 1 st Luyando Community school.
Building work at the 2nd Community school will start in April . This is thanks to 2 private donors who visited the Cool Amarula farm and Mandiya village in February and decided to pledge $50,000 for the new school.

It was a Monday morning, the 1st January 2007 when the Luyando team arrived at about 10.00hrs at Luyando Community School for a tea party with the community. Children numbering about 120 and about 20 old men and women had already converged at the school for the party.
Our team was delighted to find such an excited crowd. Singing and dancing to some gospel choruses praising God for what He is doing through Luyando.
At the end of the tea party the old women were blessed with gifts of Chitenge materials. There was such a joy amongst these women. Mrs. Mbuzi said shame has been removed, now she can walk with dignity because for an old lady like her self in Zambia to walk about without wrapping a chitenge material around her waist is shameful. The children were full of praise for Luyando because some of them cant even afford a cup of tea through out the year.
Ministering to those no one else would want to minister to was a joy to the Luyando team. It was indeed spreading the fire of Gods' love. A PARTNERS IN HARVEST MINISTRY.

At the end of November, Martin, Isaac and Evans drove 6 hours from Ndola to Kasempa in the North West Province. The reason for their trip was to meet the Chief of the province to negotiate the mining rights for the copper rich area. They combined this trip with a visit to a Leper colony to give them 35 mattresses. They had visited the colony in their previous visit a month earlier. It was decided the colony would benefit far more from the mattresses then just handing out money. These people have never had a mattress or a blanket before. So we hope this will have made their life a little easier.
If Luyando get the rights to mine in the area, they promise to commit to investing in the local communities.
