Zambia is one of the poorest countries in the world. 75% of the population lives in extreme poverty. The HIV/AIDS pandemic is currently devastating the country with 20% of the population infected with the virus. Tragically more than 600,000 children have been orphaned by the illness. The average life expectancy in the country is now only 38 years.

Luyando can be found on two farms in Zambia. The first project is currently being developed on the
Cool Bananas farm next to Kamafwesa village; 28km from Ndola. The second project will be developed on the
Cool Amarula farm which is 40km from Livingstone.

The local communities surrounding the farms are trapped in an endless cycle of poverty. They are plagued by HIV/AIDS, they have limited education and the vast majority of the adults are unemployed. Already struggling families also have the added pressure of having to take in their relatives orphans, with no means of sustaining them. This strain on the community leads many to alcohol abuse.

Luyando’s aim is to bring love and hope to these struggling communities.
